MVM Advances Energy Transition with New Block at Mátra Power Plant
Hungary's MVM Group has officially signed a contract for the development of a new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) block at the Mátra Power Plant in Visonta. The move signals the beginning of detailed design and construction preparation for the cutting-edge facility, which aims to bolster the country’s energy security while embracing advanced technologies.
The development will be undertaken by a consortium of three companies: Status KPRIA Plc., part of the Mészáros Group; West Hungária Bau Ltd., a wholly Hungarian-owned member of the WHB Group; and Elsewedy Power System Projects, affiliated with Egypt’s leading energy conglomerate, ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC. The group was awarded the contract through a public procurement process and will also oversee long-term maintenance of the gas turbine.
This strategic project represents a significant step in modernizing Hungary's energy infrastructure. By incorporating combined cycle technology, the new block is expected to deliver greater efficiency and reduced emissions, contributing to a more sustainable power generation model.
The Mátra Power Plant expansion reinforces MVM’s commitment to developing future-ready energy systems that support national goals and align with broader energy transition objectives.
